Project Description As you drive towards Hi tech city, looking at block behind block of built FAR, there is a fracture from the definite boxes of commercial and apartment buildings. The site is expansive towards the front road and narrows down towards the back. The building follows the site, forming the letter 'A', in plan. Concept One of the aims of the design was to respect the given site. Thus, the design of the hotel responds to its context with a highly site specific scheme.Due to limited unfold space on site and in the vicinity, a consecutive green space has been conceived in the form of stepped terraces.These terraces are visually connected from the third level to the top floor. Whilst context, history, memory and locale influenced the design, it was as much about the notion of interpreting fresh opportunities for a 20 year single operative establishment. So then evolves something new and different yet familiar and even cony. It is this overlap and conjunction of style, type and operation that reflect and define a contemporary position. It is an interior of luscious materials, a swirling combination of light and dark, of color and texture. Delivered with stylistic overtones from the 1920’s on, the enveloping curved forms and generous appointments invite and entice. From the abundant brown leather booths and banquettes to the backbit green polymer circular barhop lined with its swiveling zebra pattered stools, a rich combination of form and material was paramount. Drinks tend to glow, red in the fridges and display shelves or greenish atop the bar, that martini somehow energized.
