All facets of building have radically changed, inherited from architectural forefathers with lots of British and European influence, where the traditional methods of building construction and design, have been superseded by new and innovative designs and materials. There are no other publications of which I am aware that provide such easy follow advice as those detailed above. In my opinion, having reviewed the 4 book series presented by BAWP, there is no information to assist “Builders” better presented than that which is contained in the current publications of the following; •Guide to Bathroom Waterproofing; •Guide to Balcony Waterproofing; •Guide to Planter Box Waterproofing; •Guide to Flashing and D.P.C. These publications have been have been produced presenting diagrammatical drawings and reliable information which, if followed, will prevent water from penetrating the external fabric of buildings. Often to understand the modern requirements of current building systems, and, indeed the restoration of buildings some two centuries old the modern technician in all probability would research from many sources where very often the reference material is in the form of printed documents, books, drawings and the like. There are a number of publications available for reference on “how to do” technical work. The skills that trades have been intensively taught in the past are quickly becoming lost as a consequence of abbreviated and compacted training systems which are simply not adequate in providing the basic knowledge that the “old style” tradesman gained during a 4-5 year apprenticeship and concurrent formal technical training courses. External water penetration of the building fabric must be prevented and/or controlled so that there is no consequent damage to the structure. The performance of older buildings both commercial and residential structures fails from time to time as a consequence of water related damage and requires maintenance. (more).
